Part 1. Privacy
Section 1. Who we are and how to reach us
Business Mentors Sydney is a trading name of Managers & Directors Pty Ltd (ABN 43 082 518 778), the entity responsible for handling personal information collected through this website. Privacy questions or requests can be directed to:
Email: info@businessmentorssydney.com.au
Phone: 0407 900 234
We respond to privacy enquiries within 30 days, in line with Australian Privacy Act requirements.
Section 2. What we collect
We collect personal information you provide directly to us through the website's enquiry form, by phone, or by email. This typically includes:
- Your name
- Your phone number
- Your email address
- Information about your business (annual revenue, sector, situation)
- The matter you're enquiring about
We also collect a small amount of information automatically when you visit the website, including:
- Pages you visit and how you arrived
- Approximate location based on your IP address (city or region level only)
- Browser and device type
- Time and duration of your visit
This automatic collection happens through Google Analytics, a standard web analytics service provided by Google. We use this to understand how visitors use the site, not to identify you individually.
Section 3. How we use what we collect
We use the personal information you provide to:
- Respond to your enquiry and arrange the first call if you've requested one
- Conduct the search engagement if you become a client
- Communicate with you about an active engagement
- Comply with our legal and regulatory obligations (tax records, business records)
We use the analytics information to understand traffic patterns, improve the website, and measure the effectiveness of how the site is structured. We don't combine analytics data with personal information to identify individual visitors.
Section 4. What we don't do with your information
To be clear about what we do not do:
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone
- We do not send marketing emails or newsletters
- We do not add you to any mailing list, automated sequence, or remarketing audience
- We do not share your business situation or enquiry contents with mentors except in the context of an active search you've engaged us for, and only to the extent the search requires
- We do not use your information for any purpose unrelated to your enquiry or engagement without first asking you
Section 5. Who we share information with
In limited circumstances, we share information with third parties in order to deliver our service or comply with our obligations:
- Mentors during a search. When we approach a mentor about a potential brief, we initially share only the headline shape of the search (sector, problem area, indicative session fee) without your company name or sensitive detail. Once a mentor signs a confidentiality agreement, we share the full written brief with them. This is described in detail on the How it works page.
- Our service providers. We use standard business software for email, CRM, accounting, and similar functions. These providers process information on our behalf under their standard terms; they don't use it for their own purposes.
- Professional advisors. From time to time we may share information with our own lawyers, accountants, or auditors as required for the operation of the business.
- As required by law. If we receive a valid legal request (court order, regulatory enquiry, similar), we comply.
We don't share information with any third party for marketing, advertising, or commercial purposes unrelated to delivering our service to you.
Section 6. How we store and protect information
We store personal information on standard business systems, including encrypted email, password-protected CRM and accounting software, and password-protected cloud storage where applicable. Access to client information is restricted to John Morrow and any specific service provider whose role requires it.
We retain personal information for as long as is reasonably necessary to deliver our service, comply with legal obligations, and respond to any disputes that may arise. In practice, this means:
- Enquiries that don't progress to engagement. Retained for up to five years, in line with general Australian tax record-keeping requirements, then deleted or de-identified.
- Active and historical client engagements. Retained for at least seven years from completion of the engagement, in line with the company records requirements under the Corporations Act 2001 and the ATO's longer-retention requirements for certain transaction types.
If you'd like your enquiry data deleted earlier (and the deletion doesn't conflict with our legal obligations), contact us using the details in section 1 and we'll handle the request.
Section 7. Cookies and tracking
The website uses cookies for two purposes:
- Essential session cookies required for the website to function correctly
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) for traffic measurement
We don't use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking beyond Google Analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The website will still work; some analytics data won't be collected.
Section 8. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct any information that's inaccurate or out of date
- Ask us to delete your information, subject to our obligations to retain certain records under law
- Make a privacy complaint, first to us and then, if not resolved, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au)
Contact us using the details in section 1 to exercise any of these rights.
Section 9. Changes to this policy
We update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the version date below and, where appropriate, communicated to active clients directly. The current version always lives at this URL.
Part 2. Terms of use
Section 10. About this website
The Business Mentors Sydney website is operated by Managers & Directors Pty Ltd. It exists to describe our mentor matching service, allow prospective clients to enquire about engaging us, and provide information about how the service works. Use of the website is governed by these terms.
Section 11. Information accuracy
We take reasonable care to make sure the information on this website is accurate at the time of publication. We don't guarantee that all information is current, complete, or error-free at any specific moment. Pricing, service descriptions, and process details may be updated as the business evolves; the latest version is always what's published on this site at the time you read it.
For an active engagement, the engagement letter signed between you and Managers & Directors is the authoritative document. Where this website and the engagement letter differ, the engagement letter governs.
Section 12. Your enquiry and our response
Submitting an enquiry through this website doesn't create a commercial engagement. An engagement begins only when an engagement letter is signed by both parties and the deposit has been received. Until then, conversations between you and us (whether by phone, email, or video call) are exploratory and don't commit either party.
We respond to genuine enquiries within one business day. We don't respond to spam, sales pitches, vendor solicitations, or recruitment approaches submitted through the enquiry form.
Section 13. Intellectual property
The text, structure, design, and visual elements of this website are owned by Managers & Directors Pty Ltd. The compass rose mark and the Business Mentors trading names are owned by us. Don't copy, reproduce, or distribute substantial portions of this website without our written permission.
You're welcome to:
- Read, print, or save individual pages for your personal use
- Share links to pages on the site
- Quote brief extracts with attribution
Section 14. Third-party links
The website may include links to third-party websites or services. We're not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or accuracy of any site we link to. Links don't imply endorsement.
Section 15. Liability
We make no warranty that the website is free from errors or interruptions. To the extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any loss arising from your use of this website, except where that loss is caused by our breach of an Australian Consumer Law guarantee or a similar non-excludable provision.
For an active engagement, the liability provisions in the engagement letter govern the engagement itself and take precedence over the general website terms.
Section 16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia. Any dispute arising from your use of the website will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Western Australia.
